It’s the end of day 3 of my trip to Seattle, but I wanted to share a couple of places I went yesterday. The theme of yesterday was sugar and more sugar with sugar on top please. I think my friends and I are trying to see how much sugary treats we can possibly eat in one weekend. 😉
Yesterday once we got up and around and got the babies taken care of, we headed out for breakfast. It was a short walk to our intended destination – Top Pot Doughnuts. I’ve written before about my love of donuts. So when the bride and groom mentioned this donut shop as a place we should visit, it instantly went to the top of my list.
It was such a fun shop! A lot different than donut shops in Kansas City. It was more like a coffee shop/donut shop. It was really big and the walls were lined with books. Such a cool vibe.
There were tons of donuts I wanted to try and it was really tough to choose. I ended up getting a bavarian cream filled donut with chocolate frosting and a maple frosted old-fashioned donut. This is the cream filled donut. Look at the size of this thing:
It was gigantic and sooo delicious. The coffee was great too. I really enjoyed this place (and we actually went back this morning too). And by the time we left there was a line out the door.
Later in the afternoon in between the wedding and the reception my friend Em and I went to Cupcake Royale.
I didn’t get a picture of the outside of the cupcake shop, but here is a shot of the inside of the shop. It had a nice vibe. Wood floors and tables and chairs. And it was busy! I think it was the sunshine that brought everyone out yesterday.
Too many choices:
The cupcake flavor of the month is Maple Whiskey Bacon. No bacon for me, but they did have just a Maple Whiskey cupcake. I love maple but I wasn’t sure about the whiskey flavor so I passed.
I wanted a special flavor that I don’t see everywhere, so I decided on the salted caramel cupcake.
When I peeled off the wrapper the top fell off. That was kind of a disappointment but then I thought I probably would’ve pulled the top off anyway because there’s no way I could get that in one bite. The cake part was really good and moist (very important in cupcakes). The frosting was good but I didn’t think it tasted much like salted caramel. It was good but I was expecting a much stronger caramel flavor.
Then at the wedding reception there was PIE instead of cake. How fun! I hadn’t been to a wedding with pie before. There were three kinds – pumpkin, apple and marionberry. Of course I had two pieces, apple and pumpkin. One for me and one for the baby, right? The pie was really delicious but I didn’t get any pictures of it.
So two donuts, a cupcake and two pieces of pie all in one day? Too much? 😀
Definitely not too much. In fact, it sounds just perfect! It was so much fun to spend the weekend with you!!
Amy, I am so happy that you and little Jimmy were able to come to the wedding. I wish that I could have found more time to hang out with all of you. I’m excited for our next get together and will be checking your updates frequently to see how you, Ben and baby are doing!
