Hawaiian Farmers’ Market

Last week when I was in Hawaii, I made a special visit to the farmers’ market.  We got there at the tail end of the market and a lot of the farmers were starting to pack up.  Luckily we were able to snag some fresh fruit.  Check this out:

Can you imagine buying this kind of fruit at your local farmers market?  GAH!

In the picture above there is a bag of cherry tomatoes, 4 yellow papayas, 2 mangoes, 2 mountain apples, 1 avocado, 2 pineapples, a large bunch of ice cream bananas and another light green fruit that I don’t remember what it is called.

The ice cream bananas were neat.  They were little mini bananas and had a nice sweet flavor.  I really wanted to try some grilled but never did get a chance to cook them up at the condo.  Mostly we tossed them in a beach bag or back pack to eat on the go.

The pineapples were so sweet and juicy and so were the papayas and mangoes.  I made a sweet tropical fruit salad one morning for breakfast.

I wonder if I lived in Hawaii if I would ever get tired of eating this kind of local fruit.  For some reason I just don’t think so!
